Sculpture & Architecture

Fashion is an interdisciplinary thing. From painting it takes colors, changing with the seasons. From drawing and graphic design it takes prints. And it even takes something from sculpture and architecture, even though it sounds quite crazy to compare your dress with a piece of marble or with a building. If you don't believe me, you cannot argue with Coco Chanel: "Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions

The first thing I see when I'm clothes-shopping is a color, textile and then the feel of it in my hands. That's the first selection, but then comes the most important test: how does it fit? In other words: how does it sculpt me? How does it change my proportions? Does it make the construction of my body natural/big/weird/hilarious? How do I move in it? Does it add some grace or clumsiness into my moves? How does it moves on me? That's the thing with ball-gowns, tulle and frills- we love the way it sways, the way it adds delicacy into our moves, it's like adding +100 points to our Grace level.

Another thing about architectural side of fashion- it's usually hard to iron! :D

Markers & Felt-tip Pens

One of life's small pleasures and joys- to draw with new and fresh markers. The ink "boiling" in them is like young blood, circulating quick, with high pressure, demanding fast and furious moves and  half-baked decisions.I'm often wondering who rules in sketching: my head, my hand or my pencil/brush/marker?

Appetite

Keep your appetite high! Living in the times when half of world is on a constant diet and the other half is starving is pretty crazy, don't You think? While I'm the lucky one that have food in my fridge, roof over my head and clean water in my tap, I prefer to enjoy it till the end of mine or world's days. Diets and all that "keep fit" terror wouldn't be needed if people would use all their muscles, brain including (ok, I know technically it's not a muscle, but you know what I mean).

Constant dieting is wasting a lot of time on being worried: "How many calories does this have?", "Isn't it too late to eat?", "Isn't this peas too much for breakfast?", "Why can't I have that delicious muffin?", etc. Dieting sucks and actually makes you think more about food and keeps your appetite high. Wait, didn't I use that phrase in the beginning of this post?

Yes, I did. But what I mean is: if you're eating, enjoy what you're eating. And I mean also appetite for so many things that aren't food: movies, dancing, meeting with your friends, having fun, knowing new things, creating something, listening to music, laughing, loving, feeling. All that closes in this sentence:

"Believe in what you want"

Different types of fashion lovers

Big city = a lot of people. A lot of people = a lot of ideas for fashion. One of my secret guilty pleasures is looking at bags, shoes, outfits of people in the metro, on my way to or from work. Especially bags are my target lately, because I want to buy a new one and I'm looking for a model (on a real model ;) ) that will make my heartbeat faster.
We all participate in fashion industry, whether we like it or not. For some it's a duty, for others it's a pleasure, or a compulsive reflex, or just a part of everyday routine. While stalking girls' bags I actually came to some conclusions  : there are different types of people who are interested in/obsessed with/like/love/whatever fashion. Always up-to-date lovers know what's hot and what's not. Their goal is to follow the trends and not to be left behind with outfits from previous season. They'll know which designer proposes what for Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter, and not only what to wear when, but also what to listen to, where to go and what to see. Details lovers focus on accessories. Their bags, shoes and jewellery (or details on the jacket, etc.) play the main role in the fashion play. Drama lovers believe that fashion has to speak loud, with intense colors and drastic cuts. What they want from their clothes is intense and dramatic effect that makes pedestrians stopping and staring at them. True to style lovers  decide to stay faithful to narrow path and be picky shoppers. That's a difficult love but makes you recognizable.

Oh, it's a broad topic! It's amazing how many personal filters are working inside our heads to make us choose one clothes, not the other! And how somebody's amazing piece of art can be just an awful cloth for the other.

Picky Shopper

I'm facing real horror lately-shopping. When did spending money became such a struggle??? How did I shop for all those years before? Am I getting that old and picky? I'm coming into a shop with hope and enthusiasm, only to leave it with surprising conclusion that there's nothing there that*:

a) is worth it's price
b) is in my size
c) is worth considering to try it on
d) is in the right color
e) matches the rest of my wardrobe
f) will survive 3 or more washings

*choose the right answer (multiply choice allowed)

Shoe shock!

The whole city was staring at my shoes today. Ok, at least 89% of people that were passing me on the streets. That felt weird and embarrassingly. I didn't see them as extravagant pair, ok, maybe colorful, but extravagant? Come on, just some navy blue suede with red shoe laces. Have no one in this (capitol) city seen anything much more extraordinary? ;)

This shoe shock that I unintentionally caused today made me think about how really free we are in wearing what we want? If we completely don't give a damn about trends in fashion, it's not ok. If we are following fashion carefully- it's not ok. If we have a style that differs from the majority- it's not ok. What's ok then? To dress not too fancy, not too extravagant, not too cheap, not too old-fashioned, not too trendy and for God's sake, don't you ever try to look different than the crowd!

Some people were probably laughing at my shoes, some of them were smiling at me, like they wanted to say "Cool shoes!", some of them were just noticing something unusual in the place were usually people wear shoes. And I was walking, and I was somewhere between doubting my shoe-choice and being proud of it, and I decided to try the Sex & the City attitude "Stop this drama girl! You're fabulous!". It's crazy to care about others (especially strangers in the streets) opinions about how you look. If you like something- enjoy it! And cause shoe, dress, hair or make-up shock, why not! At least something interesting will happen on the streets and people will have what to talk about :)

Textile shelter

No matter how old I am, there still have to be two specific pieces of clothes in my wardrobe: "That dress" and "The sweater".
That dress is your private saviour, lifeguard, etc. No matter how unattractive you feel when you have bad day- the dress is waiting in the wardrobe to prove you wrong. "Just wear me and look into the mirror" the dress promises and you know you'll see the better, braver, sexier you in the reflection.
The sweater is a shelter that you can keep in a backpack and wear it when needed. It will protect you from cold but also gave you the comfy and safe feeling. The bigger The Sweater is, the better- just drown in the wool weaves and relax.
