Creativity comes out of lack, not of abundance. Lack of something pushes you to search, to look for new ways to fix the situation, to fill the empty space. It was very common in "good old times", when shops very very few or very far. Nothing in the households could be wasted. Damaged clothes and things were repaired with accuracy. Nowadays we have real flood of everything, I especially see it when it comes to clothes- thousands of boutiques, shops, second hands, etc.
I rememebered the movie "Waste Land" with Vik Muniz, the artist, and one sentence he said: "I'd prefer to have nothing and want everything, than to have everything and want nothing".
Generally I have to agree with you, just a side note. We will never have everything so creativity will be fine :) New inventions mainly are focused on making life easier and in my opinion this situation brings the biggest danger. Soon we wont be able to solve things on our own, without help from "the machines". The less effort we put in something the less satisfaction we gain.
